Mahera Jamidar Bari: A symbol of beauty

Tangail is one of the largest districts of Bangladesh. It is located in the middle of the country. There are some unique tourism spots here. Mohera Jamidar Bari, an architectural symbol of Nineteenth century holds the history of Jamidar Kali Charan Shah-Hajong who was the first land lord in this area. Mahera Jamidar Bari is believed to be established in 1890 in Natiapara,Tangail. Now it is being used as a police training centre.

What to see: There are four beautiful buildings in this palace. Chowdhury Lodge is the first building. This is a pink colour building having Roman/ Greek styled pillars at the front side. This two storeyed building looks most beautiful from the back side. The most stylish building is the Ananda Lodge in the entire premise. It is painted beautifully with White and Blue. There is a lovely garden at the front of the building. A pink coloured building, having Byzantine design is the Maharaj Lodge. Kali Charan lodge was built during the last portion of the Jamidari era. Besides these Kachari Bhaban, Nayeb Bhaban looks very beautiful. These buildings are still expressing the wealth and power then the landlords used to have. There is a big square size pond which is locally known as Bisakha Sagar. The pond is rounded by many coconut trees which give a beautiful natural scene. It is really a charming place for the tourists especially those who are fond of history, culture and tradition.

Communication: Total distance from Capital Dhaka to Tangail is about 60 kilometres. You can start your journey by bus from Mohakhali or Gabtoli Bus Terminal. Many travel agencies are available in this route. Nirala service and Hanif service are most popular travel agencies in Dhaka Tangail Highway. You have to come to natiapara. From there you need to take a CNG for mahera police training centre. There is also a train service from Dhaka to Tangail. But bus journey is easier than train for going to the spot. And if you like, you can travel with your own vehicle.
Where to stay: Since the distance is short, you can come and go back within a day. There are some residential hotels near the spot. Elenga Resort is an international standard residential resort available here. Though the cost is higher than other hotels in Tangail, but the service here is quite good.
Food facilities: If you are a Bengali, you may know that there are some popular traditional foods in tangail. Delicious pora bari chamcham is known and popular all over the country. You can take the taste of this food. But you have to go to the district town which is 20 kilometre northern from the jamidar palace. Besides food you can take traditional tater shari from here.
You can pass an enjoyable day here. You can spend your time with pleasure. The palace and its sounding environment will refresh your mind and break your daily boring life.
